Fort Payne is a city in and county seat of DeKalb County, in northeastern Alabama, United States. At the 2010 census, the population was 14,012.It developed on the site of Willstown, a Cherokee town known as Titsohili. Fort Payne was built nearby in the 1830s to intern the Cherokee people from Alabama before their removal to Indian Territory.
