Slippery Rock is a borough in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The population was 3,625 at the 2010 census. It is home to the Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. Slippery Rock is included in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies within Slippery Rock Township. The post office for Slippery Rock Township was established in 1826 in the Ginger Hill area. The town of Ginger Hill was incorporated as a borough under the name Centreville... Show more in 1841. Centreville changed its name to Slippery Rock in 1896, matching its post office.
